January 20, 2020 – Gainesville, Virginia

Posted on January 21, 2020 by Pam

That’s Bull!!!!

So, the last time I wrote we had arrived at our campsite at Bull Run Regional Campground in the snow.  We have spent the days since then walking the dogs through Bull Run, sitting outside looking at the woods and learning how to get around.  I have certainly realized that one city runs into the other in this area and strip shopping malls are everywhere!  This makes it hard for me to figure out where I am 😊. (Ed. Note – Sure that’s one excuse!!!)

I took a day to drive to Olney to visit my friend, Karen.  The drive there was fine but coming home was a LONG, SLOW torture….I suppose I left a little later than I should and the traffic was bumper to bumper and stopped for most of the drive.  My right leg was so tired from pushing the gas a tiny bit and hitting the brakes over and over and over again – lesson learned! (Ed. Note – How can so many people live here?!?!?!?)

This place has lost it’s luster!!!!

This past Friday, we moved to our permanent location at Hillwood Camping Park in Gainesville, Virginia.  Good thing we moved Friday since Saturday morning we woke up to the tinkling sound of freezing rain or sleet on the roof!  The nice thing about Hillwood is the surrounding area – it’s close to a nice large shopping center only a mile or so away and easy to get to.  I’m quite happy about that!  Plus it doesn’t feel near as isolated as Bull Run or Harper’s Ferry AND there’s a nice trail to walk the pups through the woods.  The park is quite old and a little on the shabby side but we have a nice view out our back window. (Ed. Note – There are some small consolations!!!)

In the meantime, I’ve been able to work on some knitting!  Since I gave away my red toed socks to Gail, I decided to start another pair for myself.  I went through my (very small) stash and came up with Kinky Sock by Unplanned Peacock Studio in a very pretty, purple and green variegated.  I think it’s called Grape Arbor.  I’m using a size 2 needle which is making a very nice, springy, tight fabric.  I’m loving them!

I also finished my Hideaway Cowl.  Its very pretty and hangs a little lower than some of my other ones.  The only downside is it doesn’t keep my neck quite as warm 😊!  (There I go again, sounding like my mom!)

I wonder what kind of Hulk hands the person that made the pattern has?!?!?!?!?

My second Morana mitten knitted in size SMALL is completed.  It’s had a little bath and now I’m waiting for it to dry to try on again.  The length is correct this time but I think it may still be big around the hand.  I’m wondering about felting the large one and see how it does.  It would possibly make the mitten warmer and fit my hand better – I’ll have to think on that a while.  Any suggestions? (Ed. Note – Get bigger hands!!!!) (HA! You are soooooo funny! – that was sarcasm…)

Hopefully, I’m heading to my first knitting shop tomorrow!  There’s one about a mile and half from here – of course, that’ll mean a 20 minute drive but hey! It’s a yarn shop – can’t wait to tell you all about it!
