August 29, 2019 – Arkansas Yarn Company, Malvern, Arkansas

Posted on September 6, 2019 by Pam

Well, this was a pleasant surprise!!!!

I went to a fantastic, new yarn shop in Malvern today!  This shop is owned by Lorri Ann who has been hand-dying yarn for the last two and half years.  She has been selling her yarn on Etsy but decided to purchase a building in downtown Malvern and open a local yarn shop.

Here comes Rhymin’ Simon!!!

The space is light and bright with pink and white (I rhymed 😊) as the main colors throughout.  White shelving is placed around the walls and in various areas on the main floor with nice couches in the middle of the room for sitting and knitting.  As you make your way back through the shop, it opens into a large classroom which looks more like a dining room – the table, which will seat up to 14, was purchased at a local antique shop and painted white with adorable pink “feet” and plenty of space.

On the wall facing the table is a large TV where classes are able to follow along with different techniques using You Tube or podcasts as needed.  A few feet down is a map of the United States with pins showing customer locations.  What a cool idea!  Across from the classroom is the register with displays of Arkansas Yarn Company pins and tape measures.  Along that wall are hanging bins with different needles to purchase.

We also took a tour of the workspace where the yarn is dyed and hung to dry.  Lorri Ann’s specialty is “sparkle” yarns.  Much of her yarn has a tiny little bit of silver, shiny thread running through it – it’s lovely!  I’m not a huge fan of “shiny” but this is the perfect amount for me!

If you bring something in, you gotta take something out!!!

Another thing I noticed as I wandered around were these adorable stuffed gnomes – in about five different shapes and sizes!  The patterns are by Imagined Landscapes and Lorri Ann dyes the yarn in colors for kits for holidays and mystery knit-a-longs.  They are so fun!!  I just couldn’t figure out where I could put them in the fifth-wheel….maybe we need something a little larger 😉. (ED. NOTE – Gnomes can be quite heavy, not as heavy as a dwarf but still!!!) I will definitely be visiting again or maybe placing a order (she ships too)!
