Every time I think I’m out, they pull me right back in!!!!!
So, we are back in Little Rock for a couple of weeks and enjoying spending some time in old stomping grounds. Unfortunately, the temperature and heat index has been incredibly high and we are missing the low humidity of the west and haven’t spent much time outdoors. (ED. NOTE – So not really enjoying it!!!) (Speak for yourself!) The pups are missing that!
You say it’s your birthday, it’s my birthday, too, yeah!!!
But today is my birthday!! I decided to visit a yarn shop to celebrate (not that I need an excuse). Russellville is a little over an hour away from Little Rock and worth the drive. The shop, Knit 2 Together is located right in the middle of a small strip center. The shop is cozy with yarn on every wall, a nice table for knitters and a small sitting area on the other side with a couch and a couple of chairs.

As I mentioned in my last post, my sister-in-law informed me that my sweet niece was in need of a fall cardigan – she had outgrown the one from last year. After perusing Ravelry, I chose the Provence Leafy Cardigan and have decided to knit the 24 month size for a little growing room. I thought a solid yarn would show off the leaf pattern nicely, so that is what I was looking for. I chose a lovely sage colored yarn, Calico by Nako. It is a cotton/acrylic blend that is machine washable which is great for a toddler’s cardigan 😊!
Help, I need somebody! Help, not just anybody!!!!
After that purchase was made, the shop owner was kind enough to help me with a new (to me) technique – German Short Rows. Last week, I started on my Breathing Space sweater with Colorful Eclectic yarn purchased at the Estes Park Wool Market (my birthday sweater). The pattern called for wrap and turn short rows but I don’t love those and decided to substitute German Short Rows. I was about an inch into the neckline where I was to continue knitting in the round but there were gaps that I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of and no way to continue working in the round. Together we figured out that I was not knitting enough stitches before turning my work and so I was short. Basically, in converting the method of short rows, I needed to add a stitch to the count each time I turned the work. I came home, ripped it out and started over. Isn’t it amazing to think somehow my head is going to fit through the fabric on that needle! It will, I promise! (ED. NOTE – Um, you have a pretty big head, so, don’t count your chickens!!!)
After my “issues” were taken care of, I browsed (and touched) all the yarn in the shop – it’s been at least a month (I was having yarn withdrawal). It was a fun way to spend the day! I’m hoping to visit two more shops while we’re here – one in Little Rock and one in Arkadelphia. Keep your fingers crossed!
