August 12, 2019 – Alabama

Posted on August 13, 2019 by Pam

We won’t make this mistake again!!!!!

Well, we high-tailed it to Alabama to get warranty work done on our fifth wheel at Dixie RV.  We moved in with my parents for the week thinking it would take some time.  We got a call the afternoon that we dropped it off saying, “Good news and bad news”.  The good news was they completed every repair but one, the bad news was the one they didn’t complete was because they ordered the wrong part (6 months ago) and it would take another month for the part to come in.  After some loud negotiation on the hubs part (ED. NOTE – Technically some yelling!!!), we have agreed to come back after a stint in Little Rock for the repair.  We are not particularly happy about the circumstances but have learned to roll with the flow! (ED. NOTE – And we saved about $750 out-of-pocket, which helps salve the burn somewhat!!!)

In the meantime, we have spent time visiting with my folks, brother, sister-in-law and 19-month-old niece.  She is walking and talking and so ADORABLE!  It’s fun to play with her and then give her back to her parents 😊!

Unfortunately, some of our friends had to head home and missed out on the group picture.

We’ve also had a chance to visit some college friends. (ED. NOTE – They are true and friendly brothers!!!)  I feel so lucky that we have kept in touch even though we have lived away for over 20 years.  We visited at the Back Forty Beer Company in Birmingham.  It is a great place, with a view of the Sloss Furnace and the railroad.  Plenty of room indoors and out – they have tables on a patio and down in a garden.  There is a dog area and place for yard games with live music at different times during the month.  The food and beer were good too!  We left there and met up with several other friends that had come from Atlanta to hear The Vegabonds at Zydeco.  I can’t even remember the last time I have been inside a club or stayed up that late but meeting up with old friends is the best reason to do it!  Plus, we’ve found a new (to us) band to listen to and the singer wasn’t bad to look at either! (ED. NOTE – Cougar!!!!!!!!!)

On another note, staying at my parent’s house was a great excuse to get my knitting projects in some type of order.  (The knitters will understand, because I had to make sure I enough projects with me for the week – I took 4).  I finished a hat from the ball of Plymouth Hot Cakes and am ready to start another one.  I’ve worked on my Morana Mittens but had to rip out the charted pattern for the second time – I’m not sure what’s going on – somehow I ended up with over 60 stitches instead of the 56 I should have…. A pair of boot socks and finally, I’ve washed the swatch for my new Breathing Space sweater!  Trying to get the right needle size, that fingering weight yarn is too much to rip out if I get the gauge wrong.

We have gotten our rig back from Dixie and are at the Birmingham South RV Park.  It’s nice and quite close to my parents but a little pricey.  We stayed at a lovely little spot when we first arrived, Rolling Hills Campground in Calera.  I didn’t check out the restrooms or laundry but the location was nice with a lake to walk around, swings for grown-ups 😊 and plenty of trees.

We’re heading back to Little Rock next week and I’ll be ready to visit some yarn shops!  Apparently my niece needs a new fall cardigan! (ED. NOTE – We have more weight in yarn than we have in actual clothes!!!!!)
