I guess you could eat it if you really tried!!!!!
I took a little drive to Fort Collins to visit a couple of yarn shops – Your Daily Fiber and The Loopy Ewe. Your Daily Fiber (cute name!!! Years ago I told someone I was going to a fiber festival and she got so excited because she was a nutritionist/nurse who thought daily fiber was so important and how great it was that I was going to a festival devoted to fiber…until I told her it was a WOOL and fiber festival with animal fibers NOT the kind you eat 😊!)
It really is important to get enough daily fiber!!!
Anyway, back to Your Daily Fiber – a family owned and operated business that has been around since 2009 and is easy to find. It has a large section up front full of weaving looms, one that was being worked on by a customer and others that had signs stating that it held student work in progress. I know there is a large group of weavers out in the world but thought it was interesting that Daily Fiber provided looms for those attending their classes to come in and use.
Toward the back of the shop hung garments that are for sale that had been created with woven fabric by Elaine, the store owner. There was plenty of yarn along with their own store yarn called Dyed by Darrell, who is the other store owner (husband of Elaine). There is also a small sitting area in front. Their website is a delightful read, telling about how the shop came about, picture of the animals on their farm and a funny blog I believe is written by Darrell. (ED. NOTE – Not to be confused with my other brother Darrell!!!!)
I’ve seen that look before!!!
The Loopy Ewe is a shop that I have seen advertised in yarn magazines. It wasn’t too far away from Your Daily Fiber, I’m thinking that Fort Collins must have a lot of knitters, since there are at least 2 other shops close by.
The shop is in a rather large building. When I walked in, I was overwhelmed! My eyes got really big and my mouth fell open (unfortunately, my face shows almost everything I’m feeling if I’m not careful). (ED. NOTE – You should see her disappointed mom face – it’s brilliant!!!!!)
The Library of Congress of knit shops!!!!
It reminded me of a library, but with yarn and things you could buy! For most people that wouldn’t be so fun, but the other thing I love to do is read – so I have always found libraries to be really enjoyable. The room was very open with white shelves lined up throughout. The first couple of shelves had the skeins hanging on pegs one after another instead of put on top of each other in cubbies. And the colors set against the white walls was glorious!! As you moved several shelves over, the yarn was put in cubbies (but still white and amazingly colorful).
The sheer amount of yarn was the other thing that was eye-popping. There is just SO MUCH VARIETY!! They had Uncommon Threads (which I love and do not own any….)(ED.NOTE – I give it a week!!!), Fibernymph, Tumbleweed, Western Sky, Eco-llama, Cascade, and more and more and MORE! Besides the yarn were needles, notions, bags, kits….I was in heaven! (ED. NOTE – I think we may have different conceptions of heaven, but to each his own!!!)
The other side of the shop was fabric and there were many people were coming in with quilt tops, looking for backing material, and a host of other sewing items. But, I was so taken with the yarn section that I didn’t even wander over there! (I usually do – I love looking at the quilts on the walls.)
Whenever I see your smiling face, I have to smile myself!!!!
Everyone working there was friendly and helpful – I may have to visit again just to see what I may have missed!
Well, that went quicker than expected!!!
On another note, I have finished the hubs socks and love them! They worked up quickly and make great boot socks.
Now I need a pair 😊!
Love those socks!
Thanks!
