Oooh, the weather outside is frightful!!!!
Today has been an incredibly FULL day! Dare and I left this morning on May 9th IN THE SNOW to drive to Denver International Airport to put her on a plane to Anchorage. (ED. NOTE – You know you’re in the largest state of the Union when you’re anchored down in Anchorage!!) The airport was HUGE – I think the biggest I’ve ever been in and definitely like a rat maze. It was beautiful driving up to it but inside – whew! – I asked no less than 6 people questions about where to go and how to get back to my car. I was so proud watching my baby girl go through security and off on another grand adventure and will miss her over the next 4 months.
Is that where they get the yarn?!?!?!?
Thankfully, I had already made plans to stop at a couple of yarn shops in Englewood, Denver (which kept my mind occupied). First I headed to Blazing Star Ranch Yarn shop which I had a little trouble finding because it is in the Anderson’s Vacuum and Colorado Shave store! After walking in, I was greeted by a nice man who asked if he could help me. I told him I was looking for yarn and he showed me a room full of yarn and a room full of spinning equipment and roving! Apparently, the owner’s wife has an alpaca farm and since there was plenty of space, they offer her and others spun yarn in the shop.
He told me all about her products, the monthly newsletter and classes. Her yarns are lovely as are the rovings and the selection of spinning wheels was fabulous! I actually bought roving to make new dryer balls because I have “misplaced” mine (along with $10 worth of quarters, some spot remover spray and a large bag of laundry pods….sigh). (ED. NOTE – Long-term loss of short-term memory!!) There were TONS of placement ribbons from festivals for her alpacas and fleece and I’m hoping to get the chance to see them in person (fingers crossed).
But I’ve found a new thread for my old spool!!!!
The second shop I visited was Wooden Spools, also in Englewood. It was another fabric/yarn shop (Lisa – you must visit!). They had beautiful quilts all around the shop, with fabric on one side and yarn on the other with a large classroom in the middle. The first thing I saw when I walked in was a line of local, hand dyed yarn called Tippy Tree Yarns and another called Pink Adobe Dyeworks. The colors were amazing!
They had plenty of other yarns to choose from – be sure to check out the website. After wandering through the entire selection of yarns, I went back to the Tippy Tree Yarns and picked out a skein named Old Apple Orchard. I found another skein to blend well to make up a quick shawl/scarf. So excited! They offered to wind the yarn for me but the Old Apple Orchard is SO lovely that I declined – I think it may have to sit in my yarn bowl for a while just so I can look at it :)! (ED. NOTE – Great, now we’re buying it just to look??? What, did a sign say, “You break it, you buy it”??? How do you break something like that anyway?!?!?!?)
Love the colors in your new yarn. Will make you a beautiful summer scarf.
