But, baby it’s cold outside!!!
We’ve been in the middle of some crazy polar vortex, like the movie The Day After Tomorrow! I don’t usually mind the cold, otherwise, we wouldn’t be spending our winters in Colorado. But this week has been beyond cold. I’m talking about waking up to it being 2 degrees outside – 2 – that’s just crazy to me! I haven’t been outside for 3 days now. (Ed. Note – The dogs and I have been – somebody’s gotta take them out!!!!) I can hear my mom and friends saying “I thought you said if you dressed correctly for the weather, it’s fine to go outside”…yes, but not in 2 degrees. Not even in 10 degrees – I’m waiting for at least 20.
Don’t count your chickens!!!!!!!
The good news about staying inside is knitting. I’m getting close to finishing the oldest’s sweater – I hope it’s going to fit! The back and fronts are done in one piece just like I wanted. I spent a couple of days trying to figure out how to pick up and add the sleeves but I just can’t figure it out. I decided to actually follow the pattern which means knitting the sleeves from the cuff to shoulder and seaming them onto the sweater. Seaming to me is a four letter word and I’m not really happy about it but, like I told the boy man, I am not a designer.
Before they hatch!!!!!!!
So, in the last few days I’ve ripped back the d*&^ sleeve at least twice – the first time I thought it was going to be too big and floppy, so ripped it out and instead of increasing every 6th row, increased every 12th row. After about 7 inches of this I wrapped it around the hub’s arm and it was, of course, too tight! Aaarrrrrrghhhhh! I ripped it back to the cuff again and this time just decided the follow the directions – I don’t know why I can’t just follow the directions, sigh…. (Ed. Note – June may have been optimistic, this is looking like August!!!)
Here’s where we are:
It has been glorious to watch their resurgence the last few years!!!!
Today is the last day of February and it has warmed up nicely (for at least a couple of days). While the hubs and I were sitting outside to watch the sunset, I saw a HUGE bald eagle fly over the lake – it was MAGNIFICENT!! You could see his white head and tail feathers so clearly. He landed in a tree not too far away and we got closer to see better. The hubs grabbed the good binoculars while I went closer to the tree. He flew to the other side of the lake and landed in another tree and ANOTHER bald eagle (this one smaller) flew across the lake and landed opposite of her mate. (We decided it was a male and female pair checking out the ducks for dinner – do eagles eat ducks??) (Ed. Note – Yes, yes they do!!!) She was turned in a perfect profile for viewing through the binoculars. It was an awesome and very memorable sight! And the poor ducks were just a paddling away in the small circle of water that had melted on the lake – poor guys…but everyone’s gotta eat, right?! (Ed. Note – IIITTTSSSS TTTHHHHEEEE CCIIIRRRCCLLLEEEE OOOFFFFF LLLIIIIFFFFEEEE!!!!!!!!)
