Idaho, land of potatoes!!!!!
The hubs and I decided to stop in Boise, Idaho as it was a midway stop between Portland, Oregon and Reed Point, Montana. We stayed in a very nice park, Hi Valley RV Park. The park has fairly level sites with rocks and concrete areas for picnic tables. They have a great dog park with lovely green grass and a salt water pool (I wish we’d tried it!). (Ed. Note – Nope!!!!!) As we drove to Boise, we noticed that we were back in a high desert climate. Neither of us had any idea that southern Idaho was desert! Boise is like an oasis in a desert – as you drive around the city you can see the green of the city surrounded by tan desert hills. It was an interesting dynamic.
This week, I finished my Ribbon Ladder Long Skinny Scarf using Berlini Ladder Ribbon Maxi yarn I purchased in Des Moines, Washington at All Points Yarn. I found some fabulous beads at Hobby Lobby to finish it off.
Animals in cages!!!!
One of the other reasons for visiting Boise was that we were able to visit with an old college friend which was wonderful! (Ed. Note – Good to see him!!!)
Also, I decided to visit Zoo Boise which I have to admit was a bit disappointing. I did see beautiful zebras – I am always so amazed at their stripes. The patterns are so precise and such an anomaly to me. They are an animal that always reminds me of God – only He could have made such a pattern. (Ed. Note – Hmmm, not what most people imagine God is like, but sure, a zebra, I mean, unusual, but you do you!!!!) I also had a closer look at lions than I have ever had at any zoo before and I’ve been to a lot of zoos. They were incredible. The female was sitting so still and looked so strong and confident and the male was an amazing sight to see as well. (Ed. Note – The males of the species appreciate your backhanded compliment!!!)
Outside of the zoo was a lovely rose garden honoring Julia Davis. It is the city’s oldest park standing on land donated by her husband, Thomas Davis in 1907. The roses are beautiful and so many colors are exhibited and the smell is fantastic!
Is it a yarn shop or a metalwork factory????
Boise had one yarn shop but it was remarkable! As I drove down the road looking for the “The Twisted Ewe” sign, I saw another sign that very clearly said “Women of Wool” and thought “That’s got to be it!”.
As I walked to the front door, I noticed several metal sculptures outside. The store had a large front room with another large one off to the side. I immediately noticed the checkout counter was metal with an interesting design behind it. In the adjoining room were several other metal cabinets holding yarn. Much of the yarn was Ella Rae, Malabrigio, Universal and others but I did notice something I’d never seen before – a macrame yarn in different colors! They had samples of plant hangers in the yarn that were amazing! I asked one of the staff about the metal work throughout the shop and she told me the shop used to be a welding shop. The sign I first noticed was originally Woman of Steel Art Gallery and the metal counter was a bar with a large window behind it where you could get a drink and watch women welding behind the window – how COOL is that!! When the Twisted Ewe took over the shop, they left behind some of the fantastic welding work.
Sheep!!!!!
We left Boise and headed to Reed Point, Montana, a two day drive. So after a night in a Walmart parking lot (which went quite well) we landed in Reed Point, Saturday afternoon. We had an amazing drive through the west side of Yellowstone National Park along the Gallatin River. The hubs chose to drive since he thinks I look at the scenery a bit too much 🙄 and it was glorious! (Ed. Note – You do!!!!) We came to Reed Point to see the 33rd Annual Great Montana Sheep Drive which happens tomorrow – I can’t wait! The town of Reed Point is approximately 3 streets each way but I’m assuming will be full of people tomorrow. Stay tuned for that post! (Ed. Note – I’m guessing more sheep than people but we’ll see!!!!)
