As the son of a son of a sailor!!!!
We took a little excursion this afternoon to Seattle (on the subway again) to The Center for Wooden Boats. The hubs has always been interested in boats and sailing and I thought this is something he would definitely enjoy. (Ed. Note – Yep!!!) We actually had a sailboat for a short amount of time – I was NOT a fan (remember I don’t like being on/in the water, just around it). Thankfully we went with my best dream of living in an RV instead of on a boat – HAhahaha! (Ed. Note – You got lucky I didn’t dig in my heels!!!!)
Anyway, the Center has a building housing a newer boat shop, the museum and offices. It was started as a living museum in 1976 where people could come to sail the collection of wooden boats and view them as well. As we walked in, we were told a little about the museum and invited to wander around inside and out. Inside were many photographs of different boats, along with the rowing wherry used for crew training at the University of Washington built by George Pocock in the early 1900s.
Sitting on the dock of the bay!!!!
Down by the pier is a small building where you can go to rent their sailboats and another building where the older boat shop is housed. The wooden boats are BEAUTIFUL and all around the pier and wharf. The Center also has summer youth programs where students can learn how to work on and build wooden boats and get to sail in their small skiffs.
Down the wharf are LARGE historic boats with very interesting stories.
It was a fun day! (Ed. Note – Yes it was!!!)
