March 16, 2019 – Leaving Virginia

Posted on March 27, 2019 by Pam

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping into the future!!!

Today we’re leaving Virginia. So far, I’ve been excited about heading some place new but not as much today. My favorite part of Virginia? These two!! This makes me a little sad about moving along. But that’s what we wish for our kids, right? That they grow into independent adults making families of their own and living their dreams. Doesn’t mean we miss them any less though!

Head west, young man!!!

We’ll be traveling the next two days to the west side of St. Louis, Missouri for two weeks, stopping somewhere along the route at another Walmart! I have to say the central part of Virginia is so different from the coastal area. We have already gone through the Blue Ridge Mountains and the whole area is so picturesque. Farm houses, cows, fields and so many trees. They are all still bare but that is giving us the chance to see all around the area – it is beautiful! {ED. NOTE – It truly is}

They disliked Virginia so much they made their own state!!!

As we traveled into West Virginia, the view changed again! We traveled along a river which wound all around by I-64. There were small towns tucked between the river and the mountains and coal mines dotting the area here and there. I realized that I had never driven through West Virginia before and, have to admit, was surprised at how beautiful it was.

Down to western Kentucky where Paradise lay!

Once we drove into Kentucky, we got a new view again. The mountains turned to rolling, green, grassy hills with a lot more space between houses and, yes, horses! After about 9 hours of driving, we decided it was time to stop.

Hmmm, this may not be the best plan!!!

As we did on our way to Virginia, we had decided to stop at a Walmart for the night. We pulled into a 24-hour Walmart in Frankfort, asked the manager if we could stay the night and set up in the parking lot. I expected some noise as cars drove in and out but, not as much as we got! (Oh man!!) At first, I chalked it up to the store being open 24 hours.

In the wee morning hours, I was sure people were deliberately driving in circles around our rig, revving their engines. At 3:00 am, I heard a sound like a gas-powered leaf blower but in looking out the window, saw a small, white truck cleaning the parking lot.

By 7:00 am, I was up, dressed and ready to go and I am NOT a morning person! {ED NOTE – She is not!!!} In a demonic voice, {ED NOTE – Yes it was} I woke up the hubs and said, “WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE!” He quickly said,  “OK”, dressed and we were on our way! {ED. NOTE – Yeah demonic voices generally moves me along} As we drove, we decided we may have to think outside the box on this boondocking thing for one-night stays. Maybe searching for outlet parking lots, Bass Pro and Camping Worlds instead. Thank goodness, we won’t have to face that problem for a couple of months!

And that’s why they call it Lindbergh Avenue!!!

Finally!  We arrive in St. Louis!                                                                         And, our stop for the next 2 weeks!

We are staying at 370 Lakeside Park in St. Peters, Missouri and got there after a four hour drive!! I’m very grateful to be there, exhausted but pleased. This is a city park, set beside a nice size lake, surrounded by levees (:0) and protected wetlands.

They have several large pavilions, a paved path around the lake for walking or riding bicycles (which they rent), kayaks and canoes, (also to rent) and areas for fishing. The RV sites are set up so that most rigs are looking out at the lake from their back windows.  They have 3 “pods” of RV sites which gives a sense of spaciousness (which we LOVE)! There is also a section for tents around a big central bonfire area. The whole park is quite lovely, reasonably priced and has been a pleasure so far!

P.S. The hubs scarf has been finished (to his satisfaction) for a couple of weeks AND it is WAY before June! {ED. NOTE – It’s a Christmas miracle!!!} This scarf is 93 inches long – 93!! 70 is the norm. Here it is! {ED.NOTE – It is the perfect length}
