Whiskey River take my mind!!!
This is the Glacier Distillery and Tasting Room. Great place to try their whiskey and a short walk to the “speakeasy” around back for cocktails using their products and small plates for a nice snack!
Holy Madre!!!!
We spent a day driving to the St. Mary’s east entrance to Glacier and were surprised by how different this side of the park was compared to the west side. We parked at the Visitor’s Center and took the shuttle to a couple of hikes we were interested in. When we checked the map the night before, we saw 3 short hikes – each to a waterfall and then planned on going up to Logan’s Pass to see if the bears had moved on and we could hike to Hidden Lake. WELL….the shuttle didn’t stop at the trailheads to the 3 hikes so we had to get off the shuttle well before those. (Ed. Note – Proper planning is key to a successful mission!!!! That is not what we did!!!!!) (We tried!!)
It was a lovely hike but was approximately 4ish miles total. We saw Baring Falls, St. Mary’s Falls and in the distance, Virginia Falls. There had been a fire on this side of the park several years ago and the fire damage was extensive. There are many bare trunks sticking up out of the ground that have a beauty all their own. BTW, we did ride up to Logan’s Pass AND the bears were gone AND the hikes were open BUT we had walked five miles by then and were too pooped to hike anymore ☹
Badass of the Week!!!!
A couple of days later, we drove back toward the east side of the park to visit Two Medicine and Many Glacier. Two Medicine comes up first, so we stopped there and went to Running Eagle Falls. There is a plaque telling the beautiful story of Running Eagle Falls. Running Eagle was a Native American woman and war chief of the Blackfeet Tribe who was also successful in battle. It was an easy hike, mostly paved, and ran through the forest with plaques telling of the surrounding plants and trees. It was great!
Proper planning, kids, proper planning!!!!!!
We drove on toward Many Glacier and saw some interesting things:
At our next turn, about 25 minutes from Many Glacier, we saw a LONG line of cars coming down the road very slowly. One of the cars stopped and said they had been waiting about an hour and a half to go into the park. He said they were doing construction on the road and turning everyone around. We were definitely disappointed that we didn’t make it Many Glacier but there’s always next time 😁
Next time we chat, I’ll be in Missoula!
