See, now this is what I really wanted to do all along!!
Rainbow Yarns in Germantown, TN is my first yarn shop to visit since we’ve been “on the road”! I have always snuck in a visit to yarn shops whenever we have traveled (just ask my family) but now that we are traveling the country I want to see as many as I can 😊. Rainbow Yarns is tucked into a strip center in the middle of Germantown.
I followed Google maps so it wasn’t too hard to find, however I noticed that all the strip center signage looked the same everywhere I looked and was glad to have directions right to the front door.
The shop was pretty cozy and yarn was EVERYWHERE! There was a section of sale yarns on one wall and in baskets around the shop. At first glance, it seemed a little messy with some yarns on display in the clear plastic bags they ship in (but would be nice if someone needed a sweater amount of yarn) and yarns piled around the room.
Everyone that came in seemed to know the owner, Brigette and called her by name. She was very helpful and friendly to all. There was a nice seating area towards the back of the shop where several people were visiting and knitting – and they, like Brigette, were friendly too. I don’t often talk to people I don’t know but felt comfortable enough to take my skeins over to get an opinion on the color.
What do you mean you want it before June?!?!?
The hubs has requested a new scarf, of course in charcoal grey, a nice neutral color. I love grey but having just finished a grey hat for my son I’m now ready to move on to a little color. As I walked around the shop, the most lovely Madeline Tosh, DK weight, hand-dyed yarn in shades of a stormy ocean caught my eye.
After sending a picture to see if it would be acceptable, I kept looking around. I saw some other beautiful yarn but just couldn’t leave the shop without that Mad Tosh!
When I come home with new yarn, I usually like to let it sit for at least a couple of days if not a few weeks before I start my new project but not this time! Brigette had wound the yarn for me at the shop and I came home and cast it on. The pattern I chose is the Mariner’s Scarf by The Seamen’s Church Institute. This is the second one I’ve knit and a pattern I love, especially for men. More to come on the progress so keep an eye out for it!! {ED. NOTE – We all know it will be done by June}
You did prove him wrong, right? Love your blog!
