January 7, 2020 – We’re Here!!

Posted on January 10, 2020 by Pam

Now, this was different!!!

We arrived in Indianapolis late Sunday afternoon and were able to get a spot at the Indiana State Fairgrounds which was nice even though the water was shut off for the winter season. (Ed. Note – Nice in the sense that it was weird in an interesting sort of way!!!) The nice thing was that it was less than 2 miles from my brother’s house!  They live in a lovely, old neighborhood that is surrounded by these HUGE mansions.  It is a beautiful area and looks like a great place to live and raise two growing boys😊. My nephew’s are 10 and 8 and have grown sooooo much since I saw them two years ago.  They are talkative, smart and fun to be around.  We had a great visit!

If we were smarter, we’d have an ad for these guys in that box over there on the right!

The youngest, Jude, has a school project based on the book Flat Stanley and asked us to take his “Flat Julian” to different places that we are traveling, take pictures and send them back.  We took our first picture of Flat Julian at Primanti Brothers sandwich shop in Washington, Pennsylvania.  (The hubs really wanted to stop there for dinner – it’s a  Pittsburgh fav.)  It was different, they make sandwiches with lots of meat on plain Italian bread, with tangy cole slaw and french fries ON the sandwich.  It was good. (Ed.Note – Good in the sense that it is interesting in a weird sort of way!!!)

There’s a reason we used to do it differently before!!!

We traveled on to a campsite we had found online.  By the time we got there, it was dark and the road wound back through the woods.  I told the hubs that if other campers were not around, we would be finding a hotel for the night.  When we finally found our site, it was very COLD and DARK!  After viewing the site with our flashlight, I told the hubs I just couldn’t deal with trying to level our rig and wait for it to get warm inside (during our ride, the inside of the rig got to about 40 degrees!)  We headed back to the interstate and looked for a hotel.  After a little research, I found a Holiday Inn Express about 45 minutes down the road.  We got a room that allowed dogs with a fabulous king sized bed, took a LONG warm shower and went to bed.

I really like the snow on the other side of the country better!!!!

As I was getting breakfast this morning in the lobby, I noticed that a crawl was scrolling across the bottom of the news showing school and business closings in Virginia.  Minutes later, the hubs come by and says, “We gotta go!”  Apparently, snow was expected through Northern Virginia, so we hit the road.  Good thing too, as soon as we pulled into our site at Bull Run Regional Park and Campground in Centreville, VA, the snow started to fall!  They are not very full, so we got a great, pull-through site with only a few neighbors and lots of woods surrounding us.  They snow continued to fall, so we’ll probably have a “snow day” or so before we get out and start exploring.  I plan on spending the time watching movies and knitting as much as possible!!

Campsite looks beautiful in the snow. It looks like a nice one but the two week limit won’t work well for full timers. Happy knitting!
