Yeah, I think I could live here!!!!
Today was another beautiful day in Colorado (is there any other kind of day here?!), so I decided a drive to the Longmont Yarn Shoppe was in order. Longmont is about 30 minutes southeast of Loveland down county road 29. The road winds right along the Rocky Mountain range and I have to admit to driving out of my lane a couple of times…and pulling over to the side of the road to take pictures. (ED. NOTE – Kinda glad I wasn’t there!!!!!)
This yarn shop is right in the heart of downtown Longmont in a thriving shopping area. You can walk up and down the sidewalks, wandering in and out of different types of shops and places to eat. As I walked into the Longmont Yarn Shoppe, the first thing I noticed was how narrow the shop was and assumed that it was going to be quite small. Actually, the shop opened up about half-way through and stretched to the back of the building and was very roomy. Yarn hung from hooks around the top of the walls and was in bins and baskets along the bottom half of the walls. There was a sitting area about halfway back in the shop with more yarn and books to look through. Notions and needles, project bags and totes, yarn bowls, buttons, hand balm, and some of the cutest card sets were also placed around the shop. (ED. NOTE – Like Christmas in October, huh?!?!?!)
Besides yarn for knitting and crochet, they have a section devoted to punch rug hooking and weaving. As a matter of fact, there was a weaving class being held at a large table in the back. Classes are offered on a regular basis on the website.
In the “About” section on their website, Longmont Yarn Shoppe says they support local farms and artisans. This is shown in the Cat Mountain Fiber Arts trunk show being held today and one being held next week with Hummingbird Moon both located in parts of Colorado. Cat Mountain Fiber Arts offered interesting yarns and convenient kits for sale. I may have to go back to see the offerings by Hummingbird Moon! (ED. NOTE – Sounds like we are about to have to store some more yarn!!!!!)
I decided on a skein of “Crazy” by Stonehedge Fiber Mill, no two skeins are alike according to the tag 😊 It will make a colorful and fun cowl! It was wound for me by a friendly and interesting woman who has lived in Longmont for years and sounded like she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! This is a cozy and energetic local yarn store that I hope will be around for a long, long time!
P.S. On my drive, I passed a llama farm!
Love Colorado. We vacation in Estes almost every year and I get to visit the yarn shops in Loveland. We are headed up there again in April and will be sure to get down to Longmont and visit the shop there. My favorites are The Loopy Ewe and My Sister Knits. I live in Lincoln, NE so I loved your review about Omaha – I am hosting a knitting gathering in May in Omaha when we hope to visit all of the shops there. Happy knitting and safe travels!
I love The Loopy Ewe and My Sister Knits! I visited both shops back in June and as soon as I get some of my projects finished, will be heading over there! I didn’t get a chance to visit shops in Omaha but will on my next visit – let me know any recommendations :)!
