And we’re off!?!?
John and I have landed in our first location, Jellystone RV Park in Horn Lake, Mississippi. It seems fitting that we’ve started our adventure at the beginning of a new year.
We have dreamed for years of moving into a fifth wheel as our “permanent” home and traveling around the United States. We thought we’d have to wait until retirement but the last couple of years realized that we may not have to wait that long after all.
John works as an IT contractor and can work anywhere there is internet and a phone signal. All three children have flown the coop and are out on their own. This fall everything seemed to fall into place. We traded in our travel trailer for a Grand Design Reflection fifth wheel. Put the house on the market in early October and closed in early November. We spent the first two months of full-time RVing in Benton, Arkansas! This allowed us to be close enough to make sure the stuff in storage needed to be there and to move some other things into storage that we really didn’t NEED to travel with. Plus, it gave us a chance to say those final farewells with the folks we had grown close to over the last 20 years!!
Now, January 5th we’re on our way – John, myself, Alice and Rosie (the dogs). I would say we’ve been very lucky the way things have worked out but since I don’t believe in luck, I thank God for the amazing opportunity and adventure we are on 😊!
John’s plan is to travel and see the United States to work so we can afford yarn, MY plan is to travel and see as many of the yarn shops, fiber festivals and alpaca farms I can see around the United States. I have dreamed of this for years and have seen quite a few shops but only on our few vacations or visits to the kids. I never had the time or place to keep up with the shops I visited.
A blog is born!!
The other day after the hubs got home from work, I started describing the yarn shop I visited that day and he said, “You know, you should start a blog to describe the shops you visit as we travel.” I said I thought that might be fun and he said, “What if the blog was called Travel Across, and what if the tagline was – ‘One woman’s journey to visit every yarn shop in the country?’”!! Then he pulled out his phone and showed me the site. This site! And he said, “Ok, get started!!” So, here we are….
